How To Clean Up Broken Glass Safely

16 Dec, 2024

Each situation is unique and will be assessed by your Chem-Dry technician. Factors such as the density and pile height of carpet that glass may have fallen into, will be examined to determine the success rate we expect to have, before proceeding with the works.

Starting with the larger panels of glass, our team gently remove these, working our way down to carefully collecting the smaller shards. Once we reach the point where the glass fragments left are smaller and less visible, our technicians will work close to the surface, often shining light in multiple directions to identify missed pieces. The light glinting off the glass helps to let us know which areas need more attention. From there, we will perform a pre-clean vacuum across flooring, carpet, rugs, couches and any other surfaces where the glass has been sent. Moving very slowly across these areas, going over them repeatedly, to collect as much as possible. The final step is to perform a deep extraction clean. Our carpet and upholstery cleaning system employees thousands of microscopic bubbles through carbonation, to bring dirt and debris to the surface, whilst simultaneously suctioning and extracting. This high powered extraction is the final step to remove remaining glass fragments. As a final touch, this process also leaves your carpets and upholstery looking vibrant, clean and refreshed.

There are some situations where the glass fragments may be so imbedded that we cannot get to these or may be missed, with no solution being absolutely guaranteed completely effective, due to the nature of the material being handled. The process detailed above is extremely thorough and highly effective, and has helped countless homes across New Zealand return to normality after the disruption of glass breaking.

If you experience broken glass making its way through your home, give our trusted team a call to guide you through initial make safe steps, and then an in home visit to assess the clean-up and quickly get to work on getting your home back to normality.
