Mould Removal & Remediation

Mould can develop in indoor environments when moisture levels are high, and if not addressed, it may affect both the condition of your home and overall indoor air quality. This can cause health issues for some people and secondary damage to, in most cases, your greatest asset, your home.

Once mould becomes visible, it’s often a sign of growth beneath the surface. Chem-Dry specialises in fast, efficient and thorough mould remediation services designed to effectively treat affected areas and help maintain a healthier living space. Our work aligns with established industry standards to ensure thorough and reliable results.

Mould doesn’t wait – and neither should you. If you've noticed signs of mould or excess moisture, contact Chem-Dry to arrange a prompt assessment and take the next steps toward restoring your home environment.

Our Expert Mould Remediation Process

1
Initial Inspection: We begin by inspecting your property to locate the source of the moisture and areas of mould growth. This can look like a visual inspection, thermal infrared imaging, moisture detection with protimeters, hammer probes and air sampling. For larger scopes, we work with hygienists using mould sampling techniques to ensure correct procedures are adhered to during the remediation process.
2
Containment and Filtration: We contain the affected areas to prevent mould spores from spreading to other parts of your home. Air scrubbers will be installed to begin the process of removing spores from the air, improving the air quality in your property.
3
Mould Removal: We follow the Australian and American standards to remove mould to an acceptable and safe level by using advanced cleaning techniques, products and equipment, to effectively remove mould from all surfaces. Technicians are trained to international mould remediation standards, holding IICRC qualifications.
4
Moisture Removal & Drying: Because mould grows where moisture is present, it is important to trace the water source and professionally dry any wet areas to the dry standard, typically 16% or less. If required this will occur after mould has been removed.
5
Air Sampling: Finally, where the scope requires, air sampling is carried out to ensure the air quality within your home is back to a healthy standard.

Why Mould Remediation is Important

When moisture and humidity build up, mould can take hold, growing in hidden areas like behind walls, behind furniture and in ceilings. Sometimes a property can have an indistinguishable musty, mouldy smell, and other times there are very few clues that there is a problem growing.

Left untreated, mould can cause:

  • Health Issues: Asthma and respiratory problems, running nose and sneezing, allergies, irritation of eyes and skin, migraines and fatigue. Often symptoms can cause symptoms that mimic a common cold.
  • Property Damage: Mould can weaken the structural integrity of building materials, leading to costly repairs. When mould has been left to develop, the remediation required can progress from straightforward removal to striping out of building materials and extensive cleaning.
  • Unpleasant Odours: Persistent mould smells can affect your indoor air quality and be hard to shift.
  • Rental Property Issues: The Tenancy Tribunal require landlords to ensure their property is mould free when a tenant moves in, remedying any growing mould as soon as it is noticed. Left untreated, this can become an issue for both property, owners and tenants.

What causes mould?

A level of mould spores will always be present in a property, these organisms are simply a part of nature. However, given the right environment, these spores can become active and start thriving rapidly, creating a real risk to home and occupants.

When there is a presence of humidity or moisture, often after a leak or flooding, or simply where condensation has persisted, mould can start taking hold. We can see the start of mould developing in untreated or incorrectly treated flooded properties as soon as 2 days after the water ingress occurred. Warm temperatures above 21 degrees, lack of air movement, and darkness can rapidly increase the rate at which mould grows.
